Ok guys, so I have found a coin that I am stumped on. This coin is listed on an auction website and I am interested in it but I have no idea where it is from. The seller is clueless but I am thinking it is either a Texas coin of some sort or a post-colonial issue US coin. But again I have no idea. Oh and the reverse is blank. Could really use some help. Thanks!
Don't have a clue. I don't know why you think it is from Texas, as this has 17 stars (16 around and one in center), so if you are looking at 17 stars for state, then that points to Ohio (Mar 1, 1803) or the 16th states (with center one to symbolize Union) which would be Tennessee (June 1, 1796). Louisiana was the 18th state to join (Apr 30, 1812) so using the stars to represent states or states plus Union would possibly date this to 1796 to 1812 timeframe, but unless you can say it was that, I wouldn't yet put it as that just based on this side of the coin (if that is what it is). But....whether it is a token, medallion, coin, or what-not......what does the other side look like? Can you put up a picture of that?
I wish I could but this was the only picture posted. The only reason I thought maybe texas, is because of the big star in the middle. But I'm glad you pointed out the other states it could possibly be from.
I re-read your first post and you said the other side was blank. That actually makes me think this could be a button or other decoration rather than a coin. If your idea was that it might be colonial or other, I think I'd take a pass on it. Seems more likely to me (unless someone weighs in on this otherwise) that it doesn't have any real value.
I'm pretty sure it's just an arcade token or something similiar 24. I may have one like it in my stuff somewhere. I'll take a look and see if I can find it. Bruce
