Ran across this $5 2006 SN IF20912815D with blue S/Ns. Scanned another one to compare. First I thought it was a dark green but it has a blue tint to it. Perhaps an error. Has anyone come across this before. Thoughts anyone.
I find these all the time strap searching. It seems to specificlally happen to newer colorized $5's and $20's only. Don't ask me how or why. I don't know, but they are quite common and aren't considered errors and do not command any premiums, sorry. Happy hunting.
I agree. A lot of the newer bills tend to have the serial # printed on stronger, and almost have a blue-ish hint to them. Go spend it on something nice
I see variations in the shade of green fairly often on whatever design/denomination keep in mind that it could be an easily faked error via chemical altering.
I would rule out chemical altering. Its not that easy turning green to a blue. I believe the BEP is experimenting with different ink colors, similar to back in the 20's and 30's. In time this might be a variation to look out for. I'm keeping it for now. Its just too cool looking to spend.
If you ever wanted, I could get you plenty more examples of these off-color notes. I'd say a good 3/4's of the Series 2006 Cleveland $5's I see are off-color. I have seen some Atlantas and Philadephias too but mainly Cleveland.
