"The most commonly collected notes in all of US paper currency collecting" would mean Silver Certificate $1's. These are very common amoungst personal and private collections. A lot of collectors I personally know originally got started through finding/recieving an S.C. What do you mean by people making laws about you and your collection? I'm not sure I get you there... Are you suggesting that there are people out trying to restrict you from collecting coinage?? I was mainly sensitive about the subject because I could deffinately tell that the person who orignally started this forum sounds like a fairly new collector, and you comment would seem very upsetting to a newer collector. I only collect Pres dollars of people who are on US currency just in case someday I want to make sets or something hahaha. I know for sure that I have Washington and Jackson for sure, but I'm pretty sure I have a couple more than that. "We coo homes!"
Sorry, but was all that necessary ? I mean it began to sound like a GOP debate. All the OP wanted to find out was the FMV of his item. I believe they are selling for about $4 on upward. Depending on condition and other factors I am not schooled in. Perhaps if some pics or scans were posted the "experts" here can give you a better idea of it's market value ?
We're trying to keep the thread alive while we wait for the OP to supply more details. (post #3) The laws that would keep me from completing my dollar coin collection are the ones that seek to discontinue the dollar coin. That's why this all links together; Dollar coin or paper dollar, one of us has to go.
It's necesssary as long as it doesn't break the rules of this forum and as long as both of us wish to continue the conversation. It wouldn't be necessary if him or I asked to stop discussing the issue, it broke the rules, or the OP asked us to stop, but instead we both continued explaining why we think what we think on the matter. Plus, our conversation had ended by the time you made that comment, so was your comment necessary??
This thread is way more entertaining then I though it was going to be!!! I'll happily help keep it alive. In all sincerity please excuse my ignorance on this topic as I'm a new collector. I'm also Canadian and canadian content is the bulk of my collection/knowledge base. One of the things I collect is 1911 canadian coins. 1911 is special because they left out any reference to God on the coins that year. They are commonly reffered to as the Godless year. I would however be interested in collecting these dollars as well. I intend to do my own research, but just to be clear I'm looking for the phrase "Without Motto" and were they only 1935 dollars?
Any silver certificates are collecitble and worth keeping. Specifically, Series 1957B and earlier (yes, including 1957A and 1957). For series 1963, the US government started printing for the first time $1 federal reserve notes. With or without motto is collectible. For series 1935G, with motto is more scarce. So it all depends on what series we're talking about. I like the without motto notes just because of the history factor, as I mentioned in one of my previous posts. Before 1935G, all were without motto. Good luck and happy hunting!
Hey, maybe I can help you learn about US currency, and you can help me learn about Canadian currency? I've been thinking about starting a whole new thread on the subject but I never really got around to it. I've always wondered, what canadian type dollars would be equivalent to a US star note? I tried researching it but I was never really successful in finding anything out about Canadian currency. When I was younger my family and I used to go into BC all the time, but I didn't collect back then. I really love Canada as a country (particulary Beautiful Vancouver) and I would love to get a small collection going. I was thinking about going to the bank and ordering some Canadian currency, but I never really got around to that either. Nice to meet you Hamhawk, my name is Travis and I'm from beautiful Northern California.
I found quite the outrageous and ignorant ad in my mail today! Not a bad price if there are still any heathens in the market for them! (actually the price is probably top dollar)
