I'm wanting to cash in my gold and silver coins. I have no idea how to do that. Do I take them to local coin dealers, pawn shops, or mail them to places like kitco? I only have 2 ounces of silver and a tenth ounch of gold. How do you all do it?

I usually put them here in the open forum first. Then if they don't sell I keep them, sell them on ebay, or change price.

For that small quantity, a local jeweler might be your best bet.

if gold prices actually do make it to $1000 an ounce and people want to cash in on their old gold rings and such, what would they do? Just take it to a jeweler? Or is there something I should be looking for in the yellow pages for people who buy gold and silver?

I'd find a coin dealer if it was me, they buy scrap gold (jewelry etc) as well. But keep in mind that with jewelry the purity is usually rather low so the prices won't be what you might think.

I recently sold some of my silver at the top of a big spike to my local coin dealer and he gave me only slightly less than it was going for on kitco. That was only a couple of ounces as well.

My suggestion is to not waste time selling them. Just ask here who wants them and send them to one of us free. I would, for instance, even pay the postage if you sent them to me. The amount you stated is to small to worry about but one of us here would be glad to help you out of this delima for free. Just think, I for instance, would take them off your hands and not even charge you for the service. :goof: :smile
For real be carefull with them. What are the dates? You could have a coin that is worth a fortune over metal prices. Post dates, mint marks, condition.

With gold and silver being so bullish things are much easier to buy now. I buy gold coins in the shop every day, seems like. And they're much easier to sell than they were when gold was at $260...go figure.
You can always sell gold to unknown people or companies like Kitco but they usually have some rules for you to follow...be sure and communicate with them beforehand so that you know what to expect. They'll likely have minimums, too.

GDJMSP is right, coin dealers usually buy scrap gold and silver. Jewelry, figurines, flatware...anything made from precious metals. Just last weekend at a FL coin show, I bought several thousand dollars of jewelry at other dealers retail prices...they hadn't adjusted their prices upward to compensate for the recent upswing, and they had their material priced at less than I'm currently paying for scrap! So I bought all I could and scrapped it for a little profit.
