    Hey guys.

So I am tired of keeping my coin collection progress in a book and wanting to upgrade to a piece of software. There are two software functions out there that I would have a blast with. Should I buy them both or just buy one? Which one do you guys think is better?

Personally to me I like the Coinnection one. My favorite feature is you get to grade other peoples coins that they have posted pictures of online.

With Numis Professional however, you get to have your collection entirely based on your hard drive and it is not a web service application that you have to pay yearly for. I do not mind paying yearly, but I would like to pay for something that is going to be around for a long time. What do you guys think? Which Sounds better?

Here are a couple of links containing the features:

That is sure a difficult decision simply because numis professional has a lot of features but the prices, IMO, for what is needed is just too much. Although the coinnection does not have all the features and or is still semi incomplete, the price is way better and the future progress and features are getting better as it goes.

Once the tweaking is done and complete at the coinnection, I will chose it over numis professional without a doubt. I have a feeling Greg is onto something with it and will make the coinnection the next best thing compared to numis professional.

    Thanks Rigo!

I just want to say.. Comparing any of the software packages to what I have done isn't really a comparison at all.
To me, it's like apples and oranges.
The software packages that run locally on your computer are made for one specific thing, and that's managing your collection. However, what I wrote is more about the community, sharing coins, hosting images, peer grading, and accessing your collection from anywhere.
Many collectors simply do not want to do that. They just want to mange their coins..period. Maybe for security reasons, or they simply do not image their coins. I developed the coinnection to go beyond that. Since I am a person who likes to image coins, share, and not send in coins to TPG's. Those are the needs it fills.

So, the real question to ask yourself is: "Do I want to share certain coins with the community, create public galleries, access my collection from anywhere, or have them peer graded/grade others coins?" If not, then the other software packages could very well meet your needs.

I would add this which is very similar to owning PMs. You don't own your data unless you also own the physical media where it is stored.
