Hi, New here. I have, roughly, $120 in pennies that I have saved over the years, for no good reason. I was wondering if it is worth my time to sit down and go through them to see if I have any of real value. Just curious. Thanks.
Welcome :welcome:, and I can't determine what is or isn't worth your time, if you think you'll enjoy searching through them, go for it, if not, keep them or spend them.
Yeah, kind of a dumb question. I don't know anything about collecting coins or how to go about getting started. Do I just sit on the couch with a magnifying glass, and just hope to come accross something? What are my odds of finding anything valuable out of 12,000 pennies? I'm guessing not good, since they can be worth so much. Do I need to buy a book?
Not a dumb question at all, and yes a book, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/07...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846 , this book would help a lot.
well, you'll need help, if you don't you'll be sitting there for ages! find some friends or if your old enough, your kids. i love doing this kind of stuff, and i'm only 14! good luck! mizozuman2
Red, first, welcome to CoinTalk. Second, you could spend a little time searching through some of the threads here. I seem to recall a few threads discussing exactly what you are asking. Probably in "coin chat". Scan a few pages of titles, and I'll bet you might find a beginning list. If I can find one myself for you, I'll post back here with a reference for you. Not tonight though. Read a bit first, and get a flavor for what you'll be doing. Take a look around. Enjoy! Lucy
I hope this comes through... and if for some reason it doesn't, do a search for this thread: [h=1]coin roll searching strategies[/h] A place to start anyway.
If that's fun for you then yes, sit down and go through them. Some people love sifting through coins. And smelling them. Everybody has their own way. Do you own thing; whatever makes you happy.
