Been looking for a decent 1909-S USPI 50 centavos (semi-key date) for quite awhile... picked this one up at the Glendale Coin Club Show yesterday in Van Nuys, CA as it's about the best one I've seen in my hunt:
Dang Illini, every time I come across one of those pieces, they have salt water damage........ Nice, wonderful and beautiful coin.
Thanks! Yeah, either that or they are worn down to G or VG, or they have been cleaned, or they have been damaged, etc. Might send it in to get graded someday, but I'm thinking there is a chance the graders may call it artificial toning...
Also picked up these at the Glendale Coin Show. Never quite seen anything like them, thought they were really cool looking and I almost guessed what they were on my first guess... anyone else want to guess what these are??? (no cheating!!!) I'll reveal the answer later...
They look like 3D maps on coins, at first thought, I saw Antarctica, but now I don't think those are of Antarctica.
That was my first guess when I saw them in the dealer's case... but nope, not Antartica. Yep. But actually it's Iceland, and a topographical map of the sea floor around Iceland. These medals (silver & bronze) were issued in 1978 and have something to do with fishing limits protection in Iceland and apparently the 30th anniversary. The silver medal is sterling silver and weights about 3.2 ounces. The bronze medal is about 2.5 ounces. The medals have matching serial numbers 228/750 for the silver and 228/3000 for the bronze and they come in a case w/ certificate of authenticity that I can't read since it's not in English. I believe the medals were made in Finland. In any event, I thought they looked pretty neat.
They looks to me like topographical map in 3d to me. They're really cool whatever they are! Read more: http://www.cointalk.com/t158772-117/#ixzz1blTcuY2A
needed this one... a very very very rare BIN purchase from the 'bay. Something I usually try to avoid at all cost.... but this one was not as over the top overpriced as 99% of the other BIN's on the 'bay,, so I grabbed it.
These are the last 2 I needed for my Seated Liberty type set. I only wanted 1 of each not worried about stars, rays and all the variations.
Was on the right track, I knew it was cold and a detached landmass. I had a dream last night, these were in it briefly, I don't remember anything about the dream except that I came up with the answer to what was on the coins. I don't remember what it was though...
