You can't be rude to them. They probably don' t know to much about coins. Maybe your just smarter. You can make them lose intrests in collecting and the forum. There like children in school. Be there teacher not there master.
You spelled "intrests" wrong. It should be spelled "interests" and also shouldn't have an S and the end of it in the way you are using it.
Um, I'm sorry I don't have a mental spell check. Btw I'm only 9 and don't have the best spelling in the world. Next time you spell a word wrong I'll get on you.
Heck I'm as old as some the hills around here and I still spell wrong. New fangled machine do have spell checker though. Just a right click away.
You should have used quotation marks around a lowercase "s"; your 2nd "and" should be "at", and you should delete "in". Chris Ricky, I think you'll find that a lot of the members try to be friend and teacher at the same time. However, you will often find that the same mistakes are being made (by different newcomers) practically on a continual basis. Sometimes, these corrections can and do happen so often that the regulars forget they are talking to a different person. Some examples of these mistakes are: stamped instead of struck, coin when medal is the proper designation, double die instead of doubled die, heads/tails or front/back instead of obverse/reverse, etc. Sometimes we lose sight of our goals when we are citing such corrections multiple times each day. Chris
No one has perfect grammar. Everyone has a different way of spelling. Where all differ t I'm just tired of seeing people who correct me and not older people (then me). Other people have miss spells check out Tyler g. Go look in want list if ya wanna correct someones grammar.
But the fact remains that there is a right way and a wrong way to spell words. Different is usually wrong.
Well, Ricky, there's those that correct people in order to truly help them and there are those that do it mock them in some twisted manner in order to make themselves feel better. Learn to tell the difference between the two because you'll be faced with them all your life. Pluck the knowledge from the giving and ignore the dolts and all will be good. Guy
Ricky, Yes, I have corrected the spelling of a few others, but that has been mostly just joking around with people who I know, and they, too, realize that I am playing with them. As a rule, if I can comprehend the thought a person is trying to convey, then I don't care if they are writing in Pig Latin. It is only when I can't understand their thought process at all that you will find me questioning them. For what it's worth, I think "Spellcheck" was one of the worst things they could have devised for computers because it makes a lot of people lazy. It was the same result when they developed pocket calculators in the 60's. In the 70's, the math skills of young kids began to decrease. Chris PS. By the way, my first post was directed to vdb, not you, and the only reason I corrected him was because he was correcting you. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Chris
You said "and the end of it in the way you are using it" It should be "at the end of it in the way you are using it. Now in all seriousness. I understand where the OP is coming from. I understand that there actually are people who have the knowledge and are NOT willing to help a new member and "instead" make fun of or bash the newbie. I too don't like this but you have to understand that not everyone is willing and many out there "THINK" they know it all. I for one am always willing to say a little something of my knowledge (very little I know) to a new comer but there is times I really know nothing. So my advice to a newbie is to keep asking whatever they have in mind, because there is more of those who help than those who "know it all".
That should be, "there're those who correct people". This is pretty silly. The only person amused by correcting another's grammar or spelling is the pompous one doing the correcting. The rest just find it petty or annoying. Apologies to Guy. I like good grammar and correct spelling as much as the next guy. But it shouldn't be force-fed to friends or strangers. Lance.
I know its from a different thread, but didn't you just do what you are asking in here not to do? The relatively new member asks a question, probably full of hopes and excitement about his new, possibly mint error find, and this is your answer? I would consider it not the most welcoming and supporting one. He possibly doesn't know much about coins, you can make him lose interest in collecting or posting in the forum, rickyh211.
OK Rick. Teacher cap goes on. A few grammatical errors on your part. Lets re-write your post as it should be written. You can't be rude to them. They probably don't know too much about coins. Maybe you're just smarter. You can make them lose interest in collecting and the forum. They're like children in school. Be their teacher, not their master. Lesson over. And as an aside......I got on master Ricky pretty hard in a thread he started a few months ago. I didn't realize I was responding to a 9 year old collector. Grammar, punctuation and spelling are of the utmost if one is to communicate effectively here (in these forums) or in school or in everyday life for that matter. I think our 9 year old friend is communicating rather well and effectively. He just needs a good editor. BTW......a few folks got on my case for some spelling errors I made in that thread (LOL).
Darn thats embarrassing... also, I only did that because he said be a teacher, not a master so I thought I'd have a little fun with that lol.
