a black mint mark?

    I found this dime the other day... it's clean and only minor scratches... but if you look closely, the mint mark is pure black... no blackness around it... only the mark itself

    Carbon - foriegn matter in the mint mark of the die carbonized and bonded with the planchet metal during the strike?

    I'd have to go with the Sharpie. However, not sure of the 0.0 size. Could just as easily been a 1.

    if it is a sharpie it can come off with some rubbing alcohol. But i dont know if that is considered cleaning a coin.

    Corrosion. If you look closely, you will see the green corrosion inside and that the black color extends out from there.....then entire leg of the P is not corroded, just a discernable ring around the center.

    Interensting find though :)
