I don't know why these coins sold for the price they did

I had two Polish coins listed on eBay in auctions ending today. Start price was $1.25 for each. They were a 1923 50 Groszy and a 1929 1 Zloty. Krause lists both around maybe $1 in the condition they are in. I've had them listed several times before and never got a bid on them. Well, I don't know what happened, but the bidders went nuts for them today. The 50 Groszy sold for $11.73 and the 1 zloty sold for $10.05. I challenge anyone to explain it. I looked at the bid history and there were actually three or four people involved. Keep in mind anyone could have had these for $1.25 several previous times and no one wanted them.

Both links are the same, you probably wanted to show this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/1923-Poland...665?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a14c94ae9

It is matter of timing and luck, IMHO. One week nobody is interested, a week later there are few bidders who get into a bidding fight.

I have purchased a notgeld lot few weeks ago for $6.5. A few days later, someone got this exact lot in same condition from different seller for $26. Go figure.

eBay is funny like that. I've seen coins listed for $100 that did not sell, but when the seller relisted them at $0.99 the bidding ended at over $150. Happens all the time.

Yeah, sorry about the links. You've got the right one. I'll never understand this one. I think this is the most I've ever sold a coin for, and I sold several Mercury dimes a few months ago when silver was almost $50. I'll take it. One of them already paid, so now I just hope the other one pays too.

It's true that weird things happen on eBay. This is the first time I've really benefited from it. I've had plenty of coins sell for less than I thought they should have because I set a low starting bid and only one person bid. This was back when only 99 cent starting listings were free. Now they have more special listing deals (usually on Tuesdays) so I wait for those days and list for free or reduced amounts. I've had plenty of times though where I kept bidding on a certain type of coin, and always getting outbid, and then eventually I'd find one listed and no one else would bid and I'd get it much cheaper than all those other ones went for that I got outbid on. This happened recently with a 1956 British farthing. Maybe the person who just had to have one at any price got theirs and now there's no one left to bid against me.
