Can anyone help me out on this medal ? What year is was made ? Is it a valid medal, as the Obverse & Reverse are the same stamping.
What do you mean by "valid medal"? Just about everyone has one of these. We see one here at least once a week. No value.
Value is no consideration. By Valid I meant " is it a real medal" I have never seen a coin or medal with Obv & Rev being the same image. Can you give me a thread to the many postings you refer to ? Thank you for your comments.
What he meant is that there are dozens and dozens , maybe even hundreds, of variations for George Washington medals. Some of them have only a very nominal value, but when they have been holed like this and it is the same image on both sides, it is likely to have little or no value. A medal may be struck from any type of metal and is intended to commemorate a person, place or event. Chris
There was one very similar to this that was used as a zipper pull on a clothing line in the 1970's. It was also used as a bangle on costume jewelry. This piece was probably used in the same way.
http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/2677375There is one that I know of in particular that is a Washington funeral medal. If you were to come across a genuine one it is likely very valuable.
I believe every medal and coin have a value...Unless its a copy or fake. I think even a few copies of items have some value. How can you say it has no value?
Never used ebay for anything, only heard of it. Ever go to a coin shop or a live auction? I have seen all kinds of GW medals for sale there. Dont know if they are authentic though.
That doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable or not. eBay is not the final authority of saying something is valuable. This might have zero value to most (myself included) but to a Washington collector, it likely might have value.
A similar piece (including the hole) sold for $13.05 about a year ago: http://www.antiquesnavigator.com/d-339194/george-washington-1st-president-coin-token-1789-1797.html
Hey Jason, I was almost sorry I started this thead from some of the responses. I am not interested in value or how many millions that were made, I was just trying to find out something about this particular medal. Dave
