Hello Ct'ers, Being a Jefferson nut, I thought I would share with you an example of a great strike. Some years are known for just having terrible strikes with deteriotad dies, especially in the 60's. Even in the years where good strikes are known, some really stand out. I just wanted to show you how good a strike can get. On the obverse, notice the hair detail, and especially the cheek on Jeffersons face. Another area to look at is the folds in his jacket. On the reverse, you can really see the detail all around the Monticello building. The areas to look for are the door and window frames behind the pillars, the outline of the dome on top, and on really good strikes, you will see the definition on railing around the building: Here is a great strike: Here a couple deterioated dies/bad strikes to compare the detail to: Just thought I would share. When you find one struck that well - you've done something :thumb: I have seen a few with better strikes, but not many
Thanks Doug! I am glad to hear that. I can't even remember where I got it. I can say for certain though it was because of the toning, not the strike.
