Hey Guys What the heck is on the back of this coin??? It looks almost like a ships rudder....I think I know where the coin is from but any help in that area would be great! This is one of 3 coins I picked up at the bank on Monday....the guy there said that most of the banks (there are abotu 5+ branches) just trash the world coins....he saves most that he finds.....so I think maybe I'll have to help the branches out some Speedy
Hello Speedy It is definetly a rudder, the coin is an aluminium 5 lire from Italy, minted since 1951 Cucumbor
Over here in DE and NL most banks won't buy world coins anyway, and those that do will charge about a third of the value. First buying them from customers and then trashing them sounds strange to me, but I don't know very well how banks in the US work. In this particular case, well, the 5 lire coin can be exchanged in Italy until 2012, I think, and you would get ... errm ... €0.0026 for it. (Edit: I may have misunderstood what you wrote. Guess that bank did not actually buy the coins but just comes across them ...) Christian
Yep...they don't buy them....The one guy at the bank said that the only world coins he wants are the older ones....he found a GB Half Cent from the 40's and just thought it was neat...don't know if they will save them for me or not but hope they do! Speedy
Now such finds are neat indeed! Hope you can pick up more coins this way - even if it's just an Italian aluminum piece. Christian
