'79-S is one of the best years as far as strike/luster, but they are extremely common. Mintage figures with Morgans can be deceiving, mainly due to the melting under the Pittman act, and the numerous hoards ('60s Treasury, GSA, and Redfield). Take the 1898-P, a fairly low mintage, but they're common in MS grades. A good number of '98s were released during the '60s Treasury release, and around 20,000 mainly MS '98s were found in the Redfield hoard (Bowers says 18-20 bags, and John Highfill says 20-30 bags).

The 1898 I'm looking at does not have a mint mark. Does heat mean it is
    Philidelphia?

    Yes!

Where do you see these listings? Ebay? Which company certified them?

I was wondering the same... if ebay, hope they are certified by a good TPG company..

I am looking at them on eBay, and from eBay I am only searching PCGS graded coins.

Good to hear, NGC would also be a good TPG to look at as well IMO...

Might add to your available options...

That's odd! I ran a quick search, but I didn't come up with any in your price range.

I'll try again just out of curiosity.

Yes, but I'm not getting any 1898 in PCGS MS64 at that price.

I just checked as well for PCGS MS65 at 75.00 and didn't see anything.. most are 63 and under.. I did see a few NGC's in the 75 range at MS 64

Guess it will also depend on how common the date he wants...
Nope, no 1898 at that price and grade

I guess it could be that he is considering making offers on BIN's that are priced a lilttle higher to bring it down to $75.

I wouldn't bid on it with just those 2 pics (maybe even scans). You really can't get an accurate idea of the strike, luster, and hits from those pics, so buying it would basically be a crap-shoot.

The pics don't look too bad to me, and the enlargements show pretty good detail. But, it is an auction, and there is no telling where the final bid will be.

You might try looking at others with BIN's that are priced up to, say, $100. As long as you are polite when you submit a lower offer, all they can do is decline or maybe even submit a counteroffer that is in your ballpark.

Agreed, the last minute snipers might push it further than you desire to go...
