Does anyone specialize in these? I can post pictures, but I'm quite sure there are more than 200. I've been commissioned to help sell my friend's grandfather's billiards collection, and that includes all of these tokens. They are basically all in cardboard sheath's, and some even have the price he paid written on the corner, so that might help, except that much of the collection is quite old, and I'm sure the prices have fluctuated... Would a regular coin shop be able to help appraise the collection? I'd like to get them valued reasonably without someone trying to buy them and rip me off. I can post pictures if anyone would find that helpful. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!
well, i'm good with billiards stuff so i might be able to help? any pics? (and by billiards stuff i mean i play it a lot!)
I'll start taking pictures now... Should be done in a couple hours at most... Thanks for the fast reply!
Yes! Photos would definitely help. There are many billiard tokens that were produced for small poolrooms of the 20's & 30's which were used for discounts (known as Good For's) usually 5c-25c. There are also billiard medals (mostly European) which were awarded to tournament winners that also date to this period. I have some of both kinds, and they can generally be found for as little as $5 (for Good For's) to $20 (for award medals). Miz, How long have you been playing pool? I started in 1956, but I had to give up the game earlier this year because I developed an intention tremor in my stroke hand. If you're interested in any collectible cues, send me a PM. Chris
By the time I was 13, I could run 100 balls in straight pool nearly all the time. By the way, I sent you a PM on some cues, but they're probably out of your price range. I didn't realize you were so young. Chris
Yes Christian these tokens are highly collectible, and some are valuable. E-bay would be a good site to check out as they always have them for auction. Also the NTCA (National Token Collectors Association) and TAMS (Token and Medal Society) sites would be useful to check out. I'm sure Chris and others here can help you though. Good luck. Bruce
Uploading some of the photos now... really that's only a fraction of them, but its a start. I took pictures of the front nd back of each one of the ones in double sided cases, and the visible side of the single sided cases.
Yes you're gonna have to post some pics. As far as a regular coin shop helping you out most of those guys do not deal in tokens and usually they know very little. The ones that know the least, would pay you the least. Best to get some pics up and see what happens. I may be interested in Sacramento pool halls but I suggest you start an album and take your time selling these otherwise just place them on ebay and start with 0.99 cents and take it from there. You're sure to get better than anywhere else but on some of them you will only get a dollar or two. Post some pics, please.
Interesting... I've never seen them before either (but then I never spent any time in a pool hall). But there's plenty on the 'Bay, and like cpm9ball stated above, most in the $5 to $20 range: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1%257C72%253A5486&rt=nc&_nkw=billiard+token&_ipg=100&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1514 http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw...oken&_osacat=3452&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
well.. I uploaded most of what I have, but photobucket is corrupting about half of them for some reason... I dont want to mess with them cause then they will be out of order, but the pictures should give you an idea of what's there and condition. Ill do more later.
If any of the billiard tokens are the old ones that were issued by Brunswick/Balke/(Collender), those often go for $50 and up. I have a decent library of token references, so if you provide a list (or preferably photos), I should be able to provide some assistance.
I've been uploading pictures to a photobucket album. unfortunately, some of them are corrupted, but I think that the majority are at least decent. if I didnt link to it above, the album is http://www.photobucket.com/coinz . thanks for your interest and help.
Nice looking collection, you may do well if you take your time selling them, what are your plans? BTW, I didn't look at all the pics because of the word "corrupted", makes me a bit leery.
Those are so cool! I have several, and never really knew what they were for. I learned a little bit here. I have these things mixed in with arcade tokens, bus tokens, business card tokens, etc...
Fret, lol corrupted just means that they didn't render properly when they uploaded and so the pixels are slightly scatered ojn about half of the image. no harm to your computer or anything =p
