I just sorted copper pennies (1982 and before) and weighed them. Came out to 5.2 pounds. What's the melt value?

    $3.41 (price per pound) x 5.2 (lbs of cents) = $17.73 x .95 (purity of a pre-1982 cent) = $16.84

The melt value is 5 years in federal prison. ;)

Now given that each cent from that era weighs 3.11 grams, and you have 5.2 lbs or ~2360 grams, then you have roughly $7.58. :)
