no more so than the tons of 2nd rate TPG slabs that say MS-70 on them... the coin is technically a burnished eagle... I've just never heard one without a W mintmark called that before

So in 2006 they made three different types of ASE.

    1. ASE Silver Proof

    2. ASE Silver burnished uncirculated

    3. ASE Silver bullion

That's correct. Number 2, the ASE Silver "burnished" also had a "W" mintmark on it. Here's what www.usmint.gov says:

"American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coins are struck on specially burnished blanks. This coin offers silver precious metal purchasers a new collectible version of the popular American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin and features a finish similar to its bullion coin counterpart. Each coin also bears the “W” mint mark reflecting its striking at the United States Mint at West Point."

Lets not forget the birth of the reverse proof ASE, first of its kind.

The burnished uncirculated and the regular proof both bore the West Point mintmark. The reverse proof bore the Philadelphia mintmark. The point the OP was making was that the uncirculated coin that had been advertised did not have the "W" on it, but all uncirculated eagles had the "W" on them in 2006.

By the way, you do realize that this thread is more than 3 years old, don't you?
