Found this in a roll at my work, can you tell me if it is indeed a capped die, and if so what is the value of it ..i am new to the coin collecting thing, been searching for doubled dies ever since i lost the elusive 1969 doubled die ( a customer gave me the 1969 s, i refered to it as a " cartoon penny" and had no clue what i had was valuable, i put it in the register and some lucky customer got it .... Two weeks later i happend to find a buffalo nickel looked up the value and saw a 1969 doubled die being number one most valuable. I feel like an idiot... Ever since i have been collecting minor ddos and errors. Getting back to the topic : pics are attached , and I'd really like to know how much it could be sold for. Thanks, -Jennifer
yeah me too ... it was the craziest lookig thing.. cant believe the rich old man gave it to me because "he wanted me to have it" and i didnt even keep it... i had no clue... none....so how much is this quarter worth you think? i mean i know its not anywhere near a 1969 ddo lol but i kinda need to sell it ...
No pmd causes a coin to be cupped underneath and on the top nearly obliterated....i can spin it like a top.
I have a dime that looks a little like it but i burn a lot of leaves and wood in the area i found it in and it was very dark. The coin was dark i ment to say.I think the heat must have caused it to separate but with yours it dosent show fire heat.Mine is a little soft in the bubble and if i press hard it sinks in a little leaveing a inprint.
Yeah theres no sign of damage to it... I found it in a bank roll. Its no longer in the nearly perfect condition it was in , but like i said the back is indented and the top well look at it. You can spin the coin on the obverse side like a top. Point is how much is it worth. Its obviously NOT PMD. Everytime i post a coin on a forum they always say ohh its mdd or pmd ..i even went so far to post a penny that was certified as a ddo and people argued ...this is for real not certified but i just want to know how much i can sell it for...
You say the reverse side is cupped? It looks fully struck to me. A fully struck coin cannot come out of the press in a cupped state. PMD is my opinion.
okay again yeah its cupped .. the picture is obviously a bad picture. it is not up for discussion whether it its pmd it isnt.so stop saying that. im asking how much i can freakin sell it for. you are getting on my nerves. the pic obviously doesnt show what i am describing because i took the picture with my phone, its crap quality. stop arguing about something that isnt a possibility. i had someone look at it they said it was a freakin capped die but i wanted otehr opinions. the man refused to give me a estimate of value unless it was certified ...i dont have money to get it certified unless i know how much i can sell it for, if i say i can spin it like a top what dont you get about that?
PMD. I only say that because you are being so nice. Also, did you take those pictures with a calculator? Try posting something that isn't blurry like a ufo picture and maybe you will get some better responses.
Definately PMD, unless you can spin it like a top, then it might not be PMD, or it might be PMD. Does it spin it spin both clockwise and counter clockwise like a top can?
Ill answer your question about worth, after looking at it thoroughly, its worth approximately 25 cents
They are saying PMD because that is what it is! a Capped die strike would NOT spin like a top. The reverse of the coin would be totally normal and not cupped at all. If you don't want to hear other people's opinions then don't ask. Richard
You state in yoyur origional post "possible Capped Die" but once someone tells you that it isn't you jump all over him. Can I recommend a book to you?....It's called "how to make friends and influence people"....
You might be able to get a quarter for it, if you're lucky, and that's a big if!. If you have four more, I'll give you a whole dollar for them.
