As its the first one I've ever held (and bought) I have no idea what to grade it as or what its worth. I know many of you own these yourself so your opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Well, considering its condition, you may have paid a little more than you should have. It definitely needs some conservation, but I don't recommend dipping it yourself unless you know what you're doing. Of course, it is also possible that you might consider what you paid to be chump change for yourself, so it could be a good candidate for dipping experimentation. The price you paid suggests that it should be an uncirculated coin, but you won't really know if it is BU or AU until some of the crud is removed. Chris
Thanks for the input. Not really chump change for me. Pretty much means PB&J for a week for me. I guess I paid too much.
Anytime you see these in the raw (any commem for that mater) unless it's an absolute gem or rare one, go easy on the price.
It's been dipped before so I really don't have a problem dipping it again. What do you think now Chris?
Either way I am happy with it. Like I've said I've never seen one before. I'm just glad to own one. Looking through ebay I didn't overpay by a lot so I'm happy with it. I appreciate all the information you all provided. Thanks.
Are you using acetone? How long did you let it soak? What did you use to rinse it? Here is an MS66 to use for comparison to see where the details may be different.
You may have paid a little too much, but it is a nice coin, a GREAT design, and I'd be happy with it.
