Any suggestion on which coin grading service I should use to grade some of my Franklin Commen's? NGC or PCGS Thanks, BWJR
If the past grading ratios continue... you will have a better chance of NGC grading them MS-70 but if PCGS grades them MS-70 they will bring more money if sold.
PCGS vs. NGC PCGS MS 69 or NGC MS70 which do yo this would bring a higher price tag. I saw a NGC MS 70 going for $150.00 with about 20 bids. Thanks, BWJR
Agreed Agreed. If you're interested in possibly selling them and you think you have an MS70, I'd go with PCGS. If it turns out that they grade it a 70, it would more than likely bring more money than an NGC 70.
What I don't understand is how brand new coins with absolutely no flaws on them whatsoever can't and don't come back MS70 very often. It baffles my mind. If I had a 2006 American Eagle proof coin and sent it in for grading and it didn't come back MS70 or PR70, I would send it back and keep sending it back til it came back a 70.
You'd spend a lot of money if you did. On average, one out of a thousand will be graded MS69. The Proofs would be a bit more often but not that much. The reason they don't is because of the minting process.
The answer is pretty easy - the coins DO have flaws on them. The coins aren't magically perfect just because they are brand new. They get hairlines and marks from handling them. After they are struck they are handled by at least a couple of people and many of them get tiny marks on them.
I dunno if I'd get them graded or not... Unless you are planning to sell them soon and have seen that graded ones have much higher profit margin (after accounting for the cost of getting it slabbed)... I think I would be more apt to buy a Commem, in it origial package with it COA and everything just like it came from the Mint... That us unless I found an awsome deal or was picking up a second... I think PCGS and NGC slabs are cool and make the best holders for old Morgans and other old coins, but I like I said above, I like the original Mint packaging for Commems, Proofs and Mint Sets... Really, you need to decide what are you plans/goals for the coin? Adding it to your collection or Flip it, hopefully at a decent profit. If keeping it (what I would do) How do you like it better? Slabbed or Original Mint Packaging? If selling it, how are they Bringing the most profit (after all costs accounted for)? Have many of these been graded already??? I haven't really been keeping an eye out for them since I got mine...
Ben Franklin Grades It seems like an awful lot of Pf70 and MS70 NGC grades being given for the Franklin Commen. I am curious to see what PCGS is going to give my Proofs and Mint State coins. What can i expect??? BWJR
