1916 D dime

    I just found a coin in an old jewelry box, and am a bit confused. It looks exactly like a regular mercury dime, is dated 1916 with the D mint mark. I understand these are somewhat rare, and alot are fake. The one I have is larger than a regular dime, it's a little over an inch in diameter. It looks worn though, like it's been around the block a couple of times, is tarnished, and has been in the jewelry box for God know's how many decades. Is there a possibility this is a genuine American coin? Did they ever mint them this large? Any advice is appreciated.

    Sorry Kathy, it must be a novelty item as there were no Mercury dimes that large.

    These are reproductions made in China. They show up all over the world (I found some in Europe a few years ago).

    Thank you, both of you. It's interesting to know where it came from, how it ended up in my possession is a mystery :)
