Is there any source in which we can see the early French mintmarks? For example, the Bordeaux mint used the "temple" mark from 1781-1789 but I don't really know what that looks like. I've got a 1784 1 Denier where the mintmark is rather squished up. Might be a temple, but then again it could easily be a "two flowers" from Bayonne or a "3 roses" from Limognes, or... I've got a few others as well where I made some guesses in the past and I'd like to know for sure.
As for web sites, none that I know of. Unless you look up each individual coin on various sites. Your best bet is to get some books. The Krause catalogs show the various mint marks, so do the Gadoury books (essentially the French Red Book).
Thanks, I was looking in an older paper copy of Krause that did not show them. My newest electronic copy does show them. Yikes, how could I miss that!
Oh no.....even though my Krause shows some of the mint marks, it definitely does not show all of them. Anyone know what this mint is?
