I have wanted a Laodicea ad Mare denarius for sometime & thanks to stainless, finally got one. I know some may not like the offcenter reverse but I am ok with it. Laodicea Mint AR Denarius O: PLAVTILLAE AVGVSTAE Draped bust right, hair in bun behind. R: HILARITAS Hilaritas standing, holding palm branch and cornucopia. RIC IV 371 (Caracalla)RSC 14 3.3g 18mm
Nice portrait and good detail. Hilaritas is a one I always keep an eye out for, havent found on I liked yet. Cool addition!
I understand so well how much it is of a favorite, being myself an absolute fan of Plautilla (see here for more : http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=1003&page=1&sort=ta ) BTW Hilaritas is on the scarcer side as a reverse type : I have made a survey about Plautilla denarii and out of almost 500 of them only 58 had been minted in Laodicaea, 10 of them with a Hilaritas reverse. Very nice addition. Q
I know your a fan of her Q She was the looker but I gotta go with Crispina, hehe. And thanks for the info, didnt know about that. So of the 10 have you seen this one then? I checked to see if it may have been on Acsearch and it wasnt.
both y'all trippin'. Faustina II (in the younger portraits) is the winner - she's a stallion. stainless
This is a nice obverse! Other than the obvious centering problem the reverse is better than many and I don't have the type so I'd be happy to have the coin. For reference, I'll tag on the common Concordia type:
