$2 Bill with no serial number

Well, the no serial number thing is not completely true. Many years ago my grandfather gave me this $2 bill. At first glance, it does not appear to have a seal or serial number. If you look really close, it appears it does indeed have one, but the press may have been really low on ink or something. The seal and SN are in the slightest shade of orange, barely visible.

So, what do you all think it's worth?

My grandfather left me a bunch of bills and old coins. I am home on vacation and my father took me to the safe deposit box to get my inheritance. I remember him giving me all this stuff 20+ years ago, but kinda forgot about all this stuff till my father brought me to the bank.

 

There are ways to remove all or nearly all of the ink from the bill.

 

So, how do I know if it is an error or if they were intentionally removed? What do you think its worth if it is indeed an error?

 

Yeah, that's been chemically altered and is quite worthless aside from having some novelty value. They're usually a darker orange and often fraudulenty sold as an error. Yours is just more faint than the usual altered red seal which does make it a bit interesting.

 

If it is indeed chemically altered, how can I find out for sure? It has been in my family's possession for 30+ years and I know my grandfather did not alter it (not his style). Hopefully it's worth at least $2 lol.

 

Oh, and its a 1928 bill. Sounds like from you guys it was altered. Im guessing the only true way to tell is from an expert in person, huh? Has anyone seen

Sorry, but your bill is definitely not a legit error. Believe it or not, I've come across bills like these (chemically altered) before in some of my strap searches... After hours and hours of research, I always come to the conclusion that it was chemically altered. Because US currency bills are printed on paper that is mainly made of cotton, the ink is easy to chemically alter. I've also come across errors where the ink was actually chemically altered and moved. Remember, there are more fake chemically altered errors out there than ligit errors...

 

+1 to all the previous comments. These notes are altered and not worth any sort of premium. If you look/feel closely at the note, you can probably tell the areas where it looks and feels different that the rest of the note, which is a sign of alteration.
