I found this coin and i am trying to get a general idea what its worth and whats a good website to find the values of coins. I found some prices and they were all over the place from barely anything to a real lot of money any help woul be great.
I doubt anyone will be able to help you much without pictures? Any way you can post pictures or at least a description of any of the text on the coin?
A size reference would help to since they often didn't have denominations on them and the only way to tell what the denomination is is by size or weight.
its a little bigger than a quarter it looks like it was two pieces that was out together trying to upload photo
This is what a real one looks like. http://yorkcoins.com/h4418_-_elizabeth_i_(1558-1603),_silver_sixpence,_3_15g_,_milled_issue.htm
I have to agree with Mat. The details on the reverse look like a bad cast copy. e.g., the Fleur-de-lis and the lions on the shield are a garbled mess, and the flower detail work does not look right. I'm no expert in coins of this type, but it looks fake to me also.
Generally speaking, the hammered sixpence coins of the Elizabethan era are very thin, crudely rounded, and the design is often weak on one or both sides, as can be seen at this web site: http://www.colchestertreasurehunting.co.uk/E/Elizabeth1st.htm
