I thought the pegleg was due to the serif being removed from the base of the "R"? The serif is still on yours. Chris
According to Cherry Pickers its the left leg of the R has been over polished. Comparing it to other examples the R falls way short. I could be wrong but it seems to be a strong example of one to me. What do you think Chris?
That is correct, but the photo of the FS-401, p. 361 of the CPG, shows that the serif on the right side of the left leg has been polished away, and yours is still there. Chris
I don't know maybe I'm mistaken but compared to other 1971's and this one and to cherry picker it looks the same to me.
The serif is definately missing. Its just the way it was ended that makes it appear to be one. Here are pictures showing the peg leg next to a regular one. I appreciate you looking out Chirs but I am positive this is the Pirate who's been evasive all these years!
This link may help a little Eisenhower Dollar Ni-clad Peg Legs And this link from the Ikegroup:A SURVEY OF THE IKE PEG LEGS IN TWENTY QUESTIONS Seems like for it to be considered a peg leg the entire serif must be missing, yours is close, but I'm not sure if it would count because it appears part of the serif is still there. *Check Figure 7 on the Ikegroup page, looks like there's a grey area.
It is close. The serif looks totally removed to me. I have four different ones which seem to be all different degrees. I appreciate the advice. Here is another one just for fun!
