    unidentified gold coin

i have come across a gold coin approximately 7mm thick and 33 mm wide with a horse and warrior with sword on one side and three men on the other (one a king- one a man with a fan and a one man in audience) i cannot find a date or any inscription - i can not place it - it seems asian but am not for sure - does anyone have any ideas??? As it is gold it doesn't seem to take very good pictures but i was able to catch the general likeness with my digital.

I believe it is Islamic gold token from Asia ( perhaps from Asia minor ) or from Iran. The sword on the token look Islamic in shape and so are the helmets.

i have come across a gold coin approximately 51 grams - 7mm thick and 33 mm wide with a horse and warrior with sword on one side and three men on the other (one a king- one a man with a fan and a one man in audience) i cannot find a date or any inscription - i can not place it - it seems asian but am not for sure - does anyone have any ideas??? As it is gold it doesn't seem to take very good pictures but i was able to catch the general likeness with my digital. How much do you think this coin is worth? and Do you think it is a collectable???

Question is, is it really gold or brass? I am somewhat doubting that it is minted in gold.

I've never seen a 7mm thick coin.It almost looks like a game token of some kind.I was originally going to say it must be gold if it's 33mm and 51 grams but with that thickness,it could be any number of metals.
The other strange thing is the design. The obverse has a fairly normal looking depiction of a horseman, quite nicely rendered but that reverse looks like someone carved it at home with a pen knife. Both seem to be middle/near eastern patterns.
I have no clue what it is but I'd say token or gaming piece, not a coin.

At 33 mm it's about the same size as a double eagle which weighs 33gm. But at 7mm thick this thing is 3 times as thick as a double eagle but yet only weighs 18 gm more than a double eagle. So if it is gold, it's not very pure gold or it would be much heavier. I suspect it is brass. About the only way to know for sure would be to do a specific gravity test - without risking damage to the item.

As for what it is - I have no idea.

Well, brass has a density of 8600 kg/m^3, since it is 33mm, it is 0.033 meters. If you square that and multiply it by a height of 0.007 meters, you get 0.000007623 cubic meters. Multiply that by 8600 kg/m^3, and then by 1000g/kg, and you would have a weight of roughly 66 grams, which is 15 more than it is, so I don't think it is brass. That's a pretty rought estimate though. I'm also confused as why one side has a gold tinge, and the other side looks silver?

I think that's just a lighting factor, zane.

But I do think this coin, if it is a coin, is brass. I think that Islamic-Coins is also correct in that I would guess it comes from Iran as well - but I don't think it's a coin.

well, the piece in this thread reminded me of a 'coin' (probably a token of some sort) of my own, that I picked up a while back.

I think there is a similarity of motif, but I never have been able to find much information on this one.
