I think we can all agree that JFK and FDR were both presidents during some trying times and they died early and, especially in JFK's case, before they should have. I believe that they should be honored and immortalized. However, I can't help but wonder: What if they didn't go when and how they went? Would our half dollar still have Benjamin Franklin on it? Would we still be rocking the Winged Liberty dime? If you think not, who or what do you think would be on the respective coins? Thanks for all your thoughts and input! I hope this doesn't offend anyone, it is just something I have been thinking about.
I dont know what they may have changed to or if they would have changed at all, but one thing is for sure. I would love to see the return of liberty obverse with eagle reverse back on all coinage. And perhapse a new design all together for the Nickel, Todays pocket change is boring, it's time to become proud of our money once again. Like this if you agree.
I think we should have Bill Clinton half-dimes with monica reverses.......(teehee) now that's something I would like to collect
Ben still on the half? Yes. Well, maybe. I see no reason why to take him off. Merc dimes? No. The reason FDR is on the dime isn't because of his death but because of his work with founding the March of Dimes. And even discounting that, the cent, nickel and quarter had already gone to having a president on them by 1940 and Ben came along shortly after so it was only a matter of time before they left the liberty design behind completely. I do wish that they had kept the Merc reverse though. It looks so much prettier.
I agree. Merc Dime Reverse is probably (in my opinon) the coolest looking reverse on any US coin. Next to the Standing Lib Quarter.
i think andrew jackson would've been on the dime. think about it... washington is on the $1 and quarter, jefferson on the $2 and nickel, lincoln is on the $5 and cent, and franklin is on the $100 and was on the half. seems to make sense that jackson would be on both a note and a coin. no offense to hamilton or grant, but jackson seems to be a bit more "iconic," imo.
prob wrong place but an aside to something stated earlier. the jefferson nickel. will we have to wait 25 years before the (IMO) very ugly obverse is ditched unless there is a n act of congress?
But he has! He's on the nickel for sure. I think someone at the Mint has a sense of humor when they were desgning it. Most collectors(including myself) have hated the new reverse but now I think its awesome
I don't want a Paul Reubens/Pee Wee Herman coin either. And I own 2 Michael Jackson style gloves to get my 80's rock moves on. Just sayin'.
FDR started the March of Dimes so he was a perfect match for the dime regardless. I think Franklin would still be on the half dollar, but the state quarters would have been the state halves. TC
