I was alerted to this auction because I own one of these sets.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-U-S-MI...18?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3f0e4691ce

the winning bidder also bought this one:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-U-S-MI...01?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item45fd642bdd

look at the bids list. A bidding war between two bidders for both auctions.

I think that those sales prompted this listing:

are these guys shilling something? Or playing some other game? Opinions?

my brother works for a shop here in town and didn't know that they existed for 1981 until I showed him one several months ago

Hmm, I wonder if it specifically that packaging that makes it valuable. I have dozens of 1981 SBA's, and some in sets, but none in packaging like that. Strange for sure. I find it VERY hard to believe they are worth anything even near that. Something seems off.

Perhaps it's speculation due to this. Here's a clip that summarizes.
    Lance.

Introduced on September 20, 2011 by Rep. David Schweikert, the bill H.R. 2977 The Currency Optimization, Innovation and National Savings (COINS) Act includes a detailed set of requirements to accomplish its goals. This includes removing Susan B. Anthony Dollars from circulation, improving circulation of the Presidential $1 coins and Native American $1 coins though various methods, the issuance of several annual or quarterly reports, and a specific deadline after which Federal Reserve Banks may no longer order $1 bills.

It's not is the seller out of his mnd, but rather the bidders are.

Seller started this auction at $.99 and it grew from there.

Oh the bidding frenzy shall be the separator of the fool and his money!

LOOK CLOSER! Ckick on the bids and you can see there were only 2 bidders, pushing the price up. I believe this is called "CHILL BIDDING", or something like that.

BU, I was referring to the buyer in my question. This same guy bought both of the completed sets for over $400, and was in the lead on the third when I posted. But rev noted the other thing I was trying to point out. On the 2 completed auctions (the only 2 that got out of hand), there were 2 bidders bidding these prices up. It doesn't seem to me that both of these guys want these sets so badly, it more appears that something is going on that may be a little less desirable for lack of a better term. It smells bad to me. No proof, just suspicious is all.

I also think that the sales of those two prompted the BIN listing at $250. I really don't want to sell mine, but a BIN of $250 would get me over that hump.

Looks like the third auction is for 3 sets 1979,81 and 99. I was thinking maybe the two first auctions were just a ploy to get a history of high $ sales, because the seller is sitting on a bunch of these and is hoping to drive up the price.

This is how some crooks operates with this shilling trick. The seller will use several accounts to drive up the prices of their items with out of this world high prices, this causes folks that are not very smart to think this item is worth a fortune. Then the seller will list the same item with a lower price but still way too high , then laughs all the way to the bank when someone has been tricked into buying the item.

It also appears that the winning bidder of the 2 $425 auction is still bidding on ABONCOM's 1981 Listings.

This is starting to smack of illegal BS since these sets can be had for way less than $425.

As a matter of fact, the winner is the high bidder on 3 of ABONCOM's 1981 Listings.

Someone paid $71 for these in 1982! I paid $10 lol. They are pretty nice.
