Hello, I won this auction today and I was wondering If I did good. It looks to me like a MS-60 RB but thats just me. Thanks Dan
I think you did just fine. It's a great looking Indian Head! As long as you like it and would buy it again at that price, then it's worth every penny (no pun intended).
It looks to me like there's some "rub" on the wreath, so I'm not sure that it would go MS. I also see a lot of scratches on the obverse. I would call it AU-55, based on what I can see from the pictures.
AU55 w/ problems... Scratches on the obverse near the rim at 5 o' clock look pretty deep (and fresh [red, underlying luster has been exposed]), and the somehow lusterous reverse with muted obverse worries, but either way, it's an attractive coin and a great addition to any basic IHC collection. Keep It Up, Brian
Please be careful when buying raw coins on eBay. As viper said, the green on the neck and the greenish tinge in the left obverse field would have me concerned. Chris
It looks like you paid EF money for the coin. If you are happy with the coin when you see it in hand, then you did good. IMHO the photo does not depict mint state but you really will need to see it in hand.
thanks everyone for the replies I will update with other pictures when I get the coin, and if I dont like it I will just sell it for the price I got it on ebay to someone else. Dan
No it's fairly common. -I probably shouldn't have used the phrase Longacre doubling, "Hob or Punch shoulder outlines" is probably a more accurate term. Read here: Other Forms Of Doubling if you scroll down to where it says "Hob or Punch shoulder outlines" you can see an example from a 1902 cent similar to yours.
