Always been one of my absolute favorite coin designs.

 

I agree on the Walking Liberty being one of the nicest designs. I also really like the detail on the Buffalo nickels:

I love the design on the Peace Dollar and this is probably one of my best pics taken with my cell phone using natural sunlight.

 

Just curious, what's the grade of that Peace? MS64?

 

brg5658, Its a MS62 graded by PCGS in the old green slabs. I started a thread awhile back because I thought it looked too good to be a 62 heres the link http://www.cointalk.com/t189240/ .

 

Yes, brg5658 is right, that is an Italian coin. A 500 lire circulation piece, "renaissance style", first issued in 1958. The lady is surrounded by the coats of arms of the Italian regions.

This is a 500 Lira from Italy. The five hundred Lira was initially minted in 1957 as a trial. The coins of 1958 to 1967 are common circulating coins which are about the size of a US half dollar (29.5mm). The date is located on the edge of the coin. Pieces dated 1957 apparently have the ship’s flag waving against the wind direction. This 1957 variety is supposed to be “a keeper”.

The obverse design is the artistic work of Pietro Giampaoli and his wife Letizia Savonitto. The design was originally created in memory of the first 10 years of marriage. In 1951, a medallion with the same design won the first prize at the International Numismatics Exposition in Madrid.

The reverse depicts Columbus’s galleons; the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. The reverse artist was Guido Veroi.

wow, these are all beautiful, i have one coin i'm looking for in my nearly 1000 pictures i'll have it up soon though.

Either way, everyone has a different opinion on "pretty" coins. Some think VF coins are pretty (ME).
