fliping throug the tv seen a coin auction on the auction channel and the guy is unloading some Morgan Silvers and Peace dollars. All the coins are graded Between MS64-VF30 and selling for exact price they are worth or more and he keeps saying "this is a great deal compare these to MS65" or something rated higher than the coin. Well ya i know its worth more in a 65 or XF other than VG but your selling me a MS63 not the higher rated coins..funny stuff
obviously..im saying the guy is comparin the coin he is selling what ever the grade may be to a higher rated coin..he needs to just talk about the coin he is selling and not a higher grade..obviously the higher grade coin will be worth more..
Personally, I don't shop for coins from t.v. infomercials or HSN or QVC. They always over-market the stuff. Hard to believe any of them can actually keep a straight face while they're pitching.
ya i havent ordered anything from there and for that i wont..just like seeing some of the different coins and what not.
Likewise, I don't buy from them. However they are very informative and do have some good information on coin history.
These ads are always good for a laugh, but you are right that it is sad that he is preying on folks who may not know any better. I have heard of way too many instances where an older person comes into the coin shop needing to sell their "collection" only to find out that their precious coins are nothing more than common date/condition coins with no special value.
If these "older Folks" bought from the TV sites, they will never re-coup their money. Most "deals" are at least a $ 100.00 over Coin Value prices.
I love watching these things with ebay on in front of me and seeing that I can get it even on the bay than the overpriced tv shows
Depending on the coin/series they are selling, you can often get it on ebay for 50% or less of the prices they quote on those TV marketing shows. It's still a hoot to watch though. Those guys are pretty good salesmen, most obviously have decent knowledge of the coins they are selling, they talk up the history and beauty of the coins, sometimes I'm even tempted to buy, if I didn't know the actual worth of what they are peddling. I've often wondered what the "leading numismatic catalog" is. It must be waaaay overpriced if they are underselling it.
I knew I've seen it all when I heard "The once in a lifetime must have, highly collectible, highly sought after, Incredibly rare, Yogi and Boo-Boo quarter album"!
