Hey everyone! I'm Paul, I'm 16 and have been collecting coins for around 5 years...I've always wondered how does everyone get such clear shots of their coins? Do you do it on a scanner?

Howdy Paul - Welcome to the Forum !!

Some folks use cameras and others use scanners. There are a few tricks for each and they both require practice. Your best bet is to do a Search on the subject here on the forum as there is much to read.

    In a nutshell...

    1.) Tri-pod
2.) Indirect (45 degree angles), diffused lighting (GE Reveal Lightbulbs work the best). IMPORTANT!!
3.) Macro setting on your digital camera
    4.) NO FLash
5.) Black, porous background so that no adjacent colors are reflected and captured by the camera
    6.) Practice

    Pictures of good setups:

After seeing those setups I've come to a conclusion: I need more lights!

I'm working with a normal desk lamp with Reveal bulb. Works rather well but I'm having glare issues which effects my quality.
