I haven't ranted about ebay the lately, so I thought I would today. Then I came across these very nicely toned Morgan dollars. The seller is actually selling them as Artificially Toned. I found it very refreshing that he decided to list them this way. For those not very knowledgeable of AT vs NT, these could definitely be mistook for naturally toned Morgans. The toning isn't over done. Anyway, I give props to the seller for stepping up and being honest. http://www.ebay.com/sch/cwbyup1051/m.html?_trksid=p4340.l2562
I applaud his honesty, unfortunately these will show up on Ebay within 30 days listed by the buyers as naturally toned. Richard
Only reason he lists this way now is he has got three negs in the last month. Trying to keep his account from being NARUed.
The one ending soonest is worth melt IMO as are all of his Morgans if they happen to be real. This kind of operation would be a easy way to salt in some of the coins from the Peking mint. This is the sort of auctions that the new collector needs to really look hard at as they can lead down the path to nowhere.
I was going to say He is one of the worse ones of selling AT coins, I agree he's trying to keep his acct from being NARU'D give him time he'll stop saying that they're AT
Because with uncirculated coins being used if somehow the toning got out of hand and ruined the coin or turned out just awful looking, the loss would be much less than if an uncirculated coin was used. Most of the AT's I've seen are commons usually.
Common's I see but in a worn grade the color would not take as well I'd think. And if you get the color right you wouldn't get much for them, right? I'm not sure why I am trying to understand a persons thinking that would AT coins though lol
There is at least one more honest dealer out there. Eastcoastrarecoins is his businesses name. I recently bought some proof sets from him. They never arrived. After twelve or more days I went to my post office and showed them my tracking number which told me nothing. The P.O. people said it was never scanned in and could be at the original P.O. or in N.J. So i called ECRC and he said he would mail me another set. It arrived in two and a half days. If finally the first set arrives I'l just return it at my expense if need be. Now that's an honest and trust worthy seller/dealer. I'll do bisness with him anytime.
Maybe your'e right about the worn coins not taking the color. That makes sense. So I'm not sure. If they did take the color though, they may get a pretty fair amount of money for them from an inexperienced / new to the hobby collector. I think that is the market the AT makers are targeting.
