    How much are 1866 shield nickels worth?

    Between 5 cents and thousands of dollars, depending on condition.

    Small problem my friend.

    You asked about Shield Nickles, which do not have Lady Liberty on either side, and posted pictures of 3¢ cupro-nickle coins, which do.

    So, which are you asking about? [​IMG]

    If it's the 3¢ pieces, they are not very valuable in the condition shown, and even in MS grades they are pretty much <$1,000.

    On the other hand, the Red Book shows shield nickles in both the regular no-mint mark version, and with a repunched date, which might be worth a little more, even in low grades comparable to your pictures.

    about $10-$15 retail. a dealer would offer about half that.
