Hello Everyone, I have a very amateurish question. Over the years I have saved one roll of state quarters for each state with the idea that I when I was finished, which I now am, I would cash them into the bank for the $500 and by a decent coin from a dealer. I want to know if there is anything I should look for before cashing them out at the bank? I'm assuming they are only worth face value. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If they're all uncirculated, learn how to grade them and cherrypick the best ones from the rolls. Although state quarters are considered "dead" for now, they're my best seller out of a local antique mall. Sell mostly the hard to find ones (Territories) and some others for $1 each to casual collectors that missed one or two when they were released. You should see the smiles on their faces when they get the ones that complete their collections. If they're circulated, cash them in at a bank.
This. If they're indeed "unsearched" BU rolls from the bank, ebay would be a good option. People go bonkers there for "unsearched" rolls.
I ebay them hex the 2004-D Wisconsin & 2005-P&D Minnesota State quarter in sealed unopened Folk will bid on all 100 rolls just to find 1 of the key sate quarter errors. If you open & cherry pick the rolls John Wexler site has 90% of the known Error& here that link. :kewl: http://doubleddie.com
They are all circulated coins that I have just saved over the years. Do you think I should still put them up on Ebay or is that a waste of time?
It is probably a waste of time. They are circulated, deposit them, you avoid fees, losses, shipping, etc.
Rolls and uncirculated sets taken from bank rolls are not selling on eBay, and the sets that are selling, have sold for about 53% below what it would cost from the mint. Unless you find something in your rolls that would get a MS67+ grade from PCGS or NGC, cash them in for face value.
Sorry for bringing back a some what old thread but I heard from a local coin dealer that you can sell a roll of Tennessee quarters to Elvis' Graceland for 20$ maybe more. They give each visitor to Graceland a Tennessee quarter as a souvenir...not sure where he heard this from though, haha. But.. There is the extra tree on the Minnesota quarters http://coins.about.com/od/uscoins/a/extra_tree_quar.htm and there may be some die gouges in 2004 Wisconsin quarters giving an extra branch type look.. http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/2004DWiscDieGouges.htm
