Hello, Today I went to the coin store and bought something finally. I bought this peace dollar for $35 and Im thinking that the guy ripped me off!! The coins are kinda getting annoying and I feel like I dont want to continue and sell what I have. My mom was mad at me and I collect these coins because she likes them. I personally like IHC thats why I get excited even when I see an AG 1905. SO basically I don't know what to do. If you guys can give me some advices on if this is a good buy, and if I should take a vacation from these coins and just finish my IHC dansco. Thanks Dan ps: the coin is not really that dark or yellow its actually BU IMO
I think you were snookered into paying way above what todays spot price closed at, but remember, dealers don't like to lower their prices with regard to the spot price.....especially when it's tumbled so of late. I don't think you could have done much better as the dealer was probably into the coin at a higher price. Still, I don't think you did too bad. And I'm feeling silver's gonna climb again. Spot for that one is around $23 so it's not like you lost your shirt on this one. And it is lookin' "sweet" too.....
Not bad, but not amazing either, if silver goes back up to what it was at three days ago, it would be much better
I wouldn't get overly frustrated to the point that your considering quitting being an active " Coin Collector " . You must look at every coin you purchase as a learning opportunity. There are some areas I would caution you on. One being Buying " Raw " coins sight-unseen, or in other words " Not in-hand " . Even the most seasoned collector has had occasion to have " Buyer's Remorse " from time to time, when making purchases of " Raw" coins via venues such as EBAY. Accurately grading coins from photo's is a " Coin Flip ", because of the enhancement technology sometimes used by unscrupulous individuals. While there are policies that allow for buyers to return for refund, items that don't meet the suggested grade or state of preservation, having to deal with situations as this more than once, is frustrating. For a New Collector as yourself, I would advise you to seek out local coin clubs and coin shows in your area, and become an active member or participant and make some friends and contacts. I would also strongly suggest that you learn to practice " PATIENCE " . This is the most difficult aspect to becoming successful at building a collection that you are proud of, and one that just might bring you great financial rewards, down the road. Lastly, learn to enjoy this hobby. Collect what you like and can afford at the time. Oh, and if your really disappointed in that Peace Dollar, wrap it up and sell it to me for $35.00
Folks think their going to make a " Killing " . The only thing their making a " Killing " at is the opportunity lost of having a respect for for history . Their loss.
Thanks For the advice I decided to not sell and be patient. I will continue this set and hopefully I will finish it as well as my IHC collection Thanks Dan
My 2 cents If your happy with this 1925 Peace Dollar $35.00:thumb: Is not bad really as some shops will charge a lot more:devil: :kewl:
How hard is it to click "Rotate 90*" when posting a picture? You see sideways pics more and more. Are people really getting that lazy?
I tried to fix it but I didnt know how I spent at least 8 minutes trying to fix it. My first grade teacher told me " If you have nothing nice to say dont say it" Dan
In 1925 : Benito Mussolini announced his own dictatorial powers over Italy. Nellie Ross and Ma Ferguson became the first female governors in the US, of Wyoming and Texas, respectively. The Great Gatsby was published...so was Mein Kampf John Scopes was arrested in Tennessee for teaching Evolution Mount Rushmore was dedicated You could buy a Thompson submachine gun for $175....from Sears. Your coin was minted. ================== One other thing from 1925.... A baby, Lawrence Peter, was born on May 12th in an Italian neighborhood of St. Louis, MO called "The Hill". His father, Pietro, and mother, Paolina, were both Italian immigrants, arriving at Ellis Island in 1909. Larry made several friends growing up, including the neighbor boy across the street, Joe, and another young man just a few houses away, young Jack. While attending South Side Catholic High School (now known as St Mary's), Joe and Larry spent most of their time hounding the local American Legion team to let them play a little baseball after (or frequently while they should have been in) school. They were pretty good too. In fact, the local pro team, the St Louis Cardinals, thought Joe Garagiola was a pretty decent prospect, and signed him for a $500 bonus. In fact, their old pal Jack Buck even called a few of Joe's games. They all kinda missed the boat on Larry though. The president of the Cards, Branch Rickey, had hoped to "hide" Larry, and sign him later when he took over the Dodgers. It wasn't to be, though... The Yankees wound up offering Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Berra a $500 bonus of their own. =================
