It's all a matter of taste and more personally, what you like to collect. Like the posters before me who indicated that issue wasn't quite their "cup of tea", I have to agree with them. I'm not a "fan" of the design so I didn't purchase it. That's not to say that the OP was wrong in purchasing these medals. He saw something in the medal that maybe some of us other guys missed. Maybe he just liked what the design signified. Maybe it was the Eagle that drew him to the medal, or maybe Lady Liberty holding the lamp. Maybe the medal holds a special personal significance to him. Perhaps he lost someone on that day and wanted to remember them. No matter, it's his personal preference and I applaud him for posting his purchase here. After all, there were those (back in the day) that didn't like the design of the Morgan Dollar or the Flying Eagle cent. Oh how times have changed........and how they continue to change.
I thought I was going to get one "gift" for every coin I bought but I only got one for my order of 4 medals. Maybe there's more coming? If there are, I hope they're not as bent. I do like the Reverse better, now that I've seen the memorial. The Obverse still reminds me of flames coming out of the tower though.
When I first saw the pics, I thought, “Could have done better”, but, after receiving them, I’d have to say the medal is well done, a great piece of art. I don’t know, someone help me, is that a deco eagle and Liberty seems to be done in an early 19th century US Coin style (called???). Yes, too bad it wasn’t a coin, but kinda cool it was done on an eagle planchet, but then The Mint missed the boat by not marking it, 1oz .999 fine. Although the medal could have been more direct in its message, "Always Remember" and "2001-2011", say it to me. The sales certainly reflect the facts that the pics aren’t great, it’s not a coin, and it’s not marked.
