I collected coins as a teenager but that was back in the early 80's. Had a metal detector back then too. Today I am finding out there are a lot more error types than I ever realized. I've now searched through about 3,000 pennies and found nothing. My highest loupe is 10x. Should I get a higher magnification? I'm thinking that if an error is obvious enough then 10X should be enough. Also, what is everyones opinion on lighting? What would be the best lighting to use or doesn't it really matter as long as it's bright enough. Right now I just use a small lamp (100 watt) because that is all I have in this room. I'm thinking of getting a fluorescent light.

i error search about $75 in pennies weekly and have found some nice ones. I have found the 83ddr, 95ddo and 4 72ddo's. I also have found 26 98 wams and 16 00 wams. Still waiting on the 99 wam. Also have found 3 blank planchet, 8 rim cuds and at least 35 wheat penny lamination errors. Also 11 clipped planchets. They are out there but getting harder to find. All my double dies were found 3 years ago in a 6 month period and havent found one since. The wams are getting harder to find also. As far as half dsollars go i have found the 71, 72 73 and 74d ddos, along with multiple missing fg and 2 clipped planchets. Onle one clipped dime and two clipped nickels including a war nickel clip. Keep searching

It's been like almost 6 years since I started that post! hehe - I've gone through a couple million pennies since. I did get an AU 1984 DDO Ear (My best find)... I've got lots of other crazy stuff - but no 1983 DDO or 1999 W AMs yet - but I'll keep trying. I'm hoarding copper cents now - so I'm kind of getting back into it. One of my best finds - was I had a $50 bag of pennies - and I got $23.60 in dimes! Yeah - that was VERY profitable! My best old find was an 1868 Indian and I got a 1907 Indian that was BU. I got an 1863 civil war token as well - that is super lucky. Best Wheatie was a 1914 S ... Yeah - the ONE time I'd rather have a D over an S and nope
