on a website it said that a 1922 wheat penny was valued at at least $550.00, but on ebay there is one being sold for only $56.00. why is that?
Without seeing the coin in question that's a pretty tough question. Some of the possibilities are: It's a counterfeit :headbang: It's an extremely low grade example It's seriously damaged The seller doesn't know what he has The seller is the owner's spouse in the middle of a divorce battle
If this is the auction you are refering too, it looks like the seller decided to start it at $5 and let people bid it up on the 7 day auction rather than starting it at a high price. It is cheaper to list auctions on eBay this way if memory serves. Since there are 6 days left, I'm sure it will go up in price. http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-KEY-1922-P...410585387QQcategoryZ39456QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Is your coin real??...is it really missing the D mintmark? This coin is faked alot so it might not be worth anything....if you could post some photos we could help more with a price. Speedy
Hey Spencer - click on the link in RichiieB16's post and see the seller's photos. I'm no expert, and the photos aren't the best I've ever seen, but no . With his feedback, if he responds to an inquiry with a decent return policy, I'd take a flyer if US cents were my cup of tea.
unfortunately someone will likely overpay for this example. It is NOT a "Die 2" example. The Die 2 examples are far-and-away the most valuable and the key characteristic is a strong reverse, which this coin obviously lacks. IMO this coin is already bid beyond where it should be (at $190 as of 5:30PM CDST on Saturday), especially considering it may be a "weak D" variety, some of which are VERY difficult to differentiate from their "No D" counterparts. This is one coin that you really should buy slabbed, it is just too easy to fake the real deal!
CT is right on! Looks to be the Die #1 variety, It's hard to tell from the pictures...ironically the "Liberty" portion of the coin does not show in pictures
