I'm a little more than a casual collector of U.S. Coins. I guess that I've talked my friends and relatives into believing I am something more. So for my birthday which was the 13th of Sept, my daughter and son in law gave me what they called " A Coin Buddy " for the lack of not knowing what else to call it. They asked a friend of theirs if her husband would come over and take a look at my coins and offer his opinions to what he thought. Of course this is all with my approval. This person they said had been a long time collector of U.S. Coins but now majors in World Coins. I am not quite sure of how all of this will help me but I'm sure that I will enjoy him and his knowledge of coins. I never have anyone to talk coins with except CT'ers. So this should be a positive and rewarding experience for me. Don't you think?
Could be a rewarding experience or a big ole' laugh Some people claim to know a lot and all they know is nothing more than basics. Reminds me of my son...lol However, if you become friends, it could be a coin buddy ending up in a fun rewarding friendship, you just never know. I only have my son and a buddy around the neighboring county to talk coins but I sure talk to a lot of CT and CU (Collectors Unleashed) members on the phone to have a chat.
Sounds Like a rewarding experiance. I wish I had acoin buddy other than these wonderffully awesome cters. Haha. I am not in shool becase I live in pasific time which school dosent start for aother hour. Haha east coasters.
I don't think there is a down side. If you get along, you will share knowledge. If you end up not spending time together - so be it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I would certainly think positively about it. It's a nice thing that your family has done for you!
That was a thoughtful gift and imaginative to say the least! Lately I have been emailing a couple people I've met that have been collecting for several years and even acquired some coins through them as they upgrade their collections. It is nice to talk to someone who understands your interests and with whom you don't have to explain everything in detail with when you find a great coin to purchase or here about a major find. At the very least you may find someone who knows of some great places to get coins, as well as a new friendship. Hope it works out for you, and happy belated birthday!
Belated Happy Birthday, Zeke. Pretty creative and thoughtful of your kids, no matter if you hit it off of not..shows they're really thinking about how to please you! Lucy
