Just a lazy Sunday morning around here so I figured I'd post up some coin pics this morning. This is 1 of 3 IS albums I own. I'd highly recommend them to anybody. I'd say the MS steel cent is a good barometer of how well the album is protecting these. It hasn't changed a bit.

I never see them around here so here's Intercept's version of the "7070". You wouldn't want to get hit over the head with it! :D

Kind of wanted to be a little further along before I posted picks but what the heck. I got this one about a year ago. I had a lot of loose singles that didn't belong anywhere else so I decided I may as well get an album going. Also in advance of it coming, I began accumulating some of the common stuff I didn't have. Here was the situation the day it arrived:

As of today, 9/18/11, here is the current progress. It hasn't been the main focus but I've picked up a few for it here and there. This is what I did with mine.

The Buffalos are MS-65s that were cracked out- 1913- TY 1 and a 38-D.

The halves page includes a blazing WLH MS-64 that I cracked out. The CBH is an 1810. The one seated half is a well worn 1860-O. The other is a 1853-O Arrows & Rays. I would really like to finish this page soon.

The commemoratives and moderns page includes the '09 Lincoln cents. ( The 2010 went on the cents page at the beginning. ) The 1920 pilgrim was a PCGS MS-64 crack out. It represents the classic commems. With it, I went with the 1892 Columbian half, which represents the US mint's first comemmorative. The '82 Washington half which represented the first of the modern commems and the '08 Bald eagle half reverse which is a beautiful design. I also used the 2008 Bald eagle silver dollar reverse face up, next to a 2010 ASE reverse showing the old Heraldic eagle next to the modern one.

I could add more but I won't crack stuff out unless I specifically buy it at a show to be cracked out for a set.

Here's a few closeups of what went in. I wish I could post the Pilgrim comemm because it is gorgeous but I can't save the pics from my excel file and don't know where the originals went. Here's a few of the rest:

Nice start, and I especially like the look of the black pages vs. the tan ones in Dansco's. Though, how often are you supposed to change the 'IS activation' page???

the Intercept Shield pages are green, not black.

Still I prefer the look of them over the Danscos

Great album if you collect your type set (or any set) raw.
    I see only one drawback.
You are letting IS define what your type set is.
The nice thing about a type set is that you can define what you consider it to be.
A good example is how many SL Quarters will you decide are necessary.
    One? For the general design.
Two? For what the Red Book calls Variety 1 and Variety 2.
Three? For what the NGC Registry Type Set calls Variety 1, Variety 2 and Variety 3 (recessed date).

It's this sort of thing that will keep me from buying a type set album.
That and the fact that all my type set coins are slabbed.

But no matter how you start, you can later adjust your definition.

Kanga, I have NEVER met a type collector that didn't change his definition at least once over the course of his collecting life. :) I think that I did at least 5 times. Probably more!

I know I am resurrecting an old thread but I have been thinking of getting a type set album myself and I was wondering how the OP felt about their Intercept Shield album after a couple year's of use. I don't have any albums now so I could go with a Dansco 7070 from eBay but I kind of like the looks of this album. So, how is the Intercept holding up? Also, do these albums have plastic slides like the Dansco's to cover each row of coins? Thanks in advance!

There's just something about the name " Intercept Shield"

it sounds like some kind of birth control device !

I mostly accumulate raw but uncirculated grade coins. I use Intercept Shield albums almost exclusively. Blast white coins look gorgeous against the dark green page, and they're a durable, well-constructed album. I don't know if they truly protect better than other albums, but the slip cover comes with the album instead of having to buy it separate. That's a bonus.

They can be pricey new, but I'GE managed to find several used on eBay for anywhere from $8 (full merc dime album) to $15 (full date/mint Morgan album). Each one has come in an "as new" condition.

What is preferred for keeping coins "as is" and just over all in good condition. Dansco or intercept shield?

I've used both and been perfectly happy with both. Intercept markets theirs as being the highest level of protection (museum quality archival) but I don't know if that's anything more than marketing fluff or not.

I just placed all 100 state quarters in a dansco. It took me two days. I just worry about coming back in two years and finding them toned (I hate toning) and ruining all that work let alone the coins. Any thoughts on this? Sorry if I'm hijacking. I'm just curious about dansco vs is.

Either way, great collection. It makes me want to do the is 7070 since they're still available unlike the dansco.
