Some of you may know that I have been working on a set for my collection. Specifically, I have been assembling a US Proof Set from my birth year, 1962. If I were very casual about this it wouldn't be much of a story, but I didn't want an average proof set. I decided to assemble a set of PF-68 Ultra Cameo coins. Although Ultra Cameo coins are the norm in US Proof Sets of the past few decades, in 1962 it is not very common at all for proofs to have cameo devices let alone ultra cameo on both sides of a coin for years prior to 1970. In fact, many coins will pay a premium for cameo devices on a single side alone, but I wanted to do a set of Ultra Cameos. PF-68 seemed the appropriate grade as a PF-69 Ultra Cameo would be a "top pop" coin for most of this set and I cannot afford those. The bidding just gets too crazy and the prices too high. These coins have been much more of a challenge to find than I had first thought. They don't come up for sale very often either. I currently have the Quarter, and Dime. I have a Half Dollar in 67 UC and I don't know if I can afford to upgrade it, so it might remain the single 67 coin. What remains are the Cent and the Nickel. I have a 68 Cameo nickel, but no Cent at all. Well, until tonight, that is... Feast your eyes, me hardies!!! Here's my newest Cent: http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=3139&lot=1248&imagetype=j I think I may be a bit late on this trend as this one sold for considerably more than the last 3, but they don't come up often and I really wanted this coin. opinions are welcome!!!
Nice. Are you going for PCGS only slabs or are NGC coins okay, too? (You used UCAM in your post so I assume that this is a mixed set because PCGS has Deep Cameo and NGC has Ultra Cameo.) I picked up two dimes from that auction. Not sure why yet. But I got them.
actually, I am going to cross this coin over. All of the rest are in NGC holders. I want a matched set does anyone anticipate a problem crossing this coin to NGC?
