I'm looking for some of your opinions what what this coin would grade and therefore what it's worth. What I'm mostly not sure about, as far as grading would go, is how much the small 'dings' in the obverse rim would detract from the overall grade of the coin? I have very little experience with this. Overall I think it is a great looking coin but it's a bit of a bummer that it has those few little dings. Without the dings I was thinking it might be around an AU-50? But, no idea how badly the dings would hurt it.

    So,

    1. What do you think it would grade in it's current condition?
    2. What you think it would grade if the three small dings weren't there but everything else were the same?
    3. What you think it is worth in it's current condition?
    4. Is it worth getting slabbed?

Thanks for your time and input!

That gash at the rim, under Liberty guarantees it a 'genuine, ungradable'. It's damaged goods, sorry.

I'll add.....hence my not giving any estimate on grade/value. Though, I will answer the 'is it worth slabbing or not' question.....no, not worth it.

Wow, that bad? I didn't know that. Amazing that you can get coins in AG - G conditions graded and this one is worthless junk!

Thanks for the input though, I don't know the rules.

Please don't be offended, just giving my opinion. Trust me, I've 'paid my dues', as we all have. However, that gash under 'Liberty' looks to be a grade killer. Like I said, no offense intended, honestly.....just what I see from the image.

No offense taken at all Numismania, I appreciate the input! It's just worse than I thought lol

Thanks, Mental (lol.....thats one of the hit men's name from 'Dumb and Dumber', sorry). It looks to me like that gash was made by a piece of metal. Without that gash, I'd agree with jhinton....XF all day.

I would say 45 assuming that the surfaces haven't been played with (MS70 or such), but I am afraid they have been. The gash is not enough to not get a grade. Value 50-60 and not worth grading.

I'd take rlm's advice over mine any day....if he says the gash isn't bad enough to not warrant a grade, then it isn't. Period.

Where was your reply to this, rlm, before I put my foot in my mouth??? ;)

rlm, I thought the fields were a bit bluish (a sign of MS70?), then theres a patch of brown under Liberty, that does break the toning. That did catch my eye. Is that indicative of the 'MS70 retoning'???

there actually doesn't appear to be any 'blue' cast on the actual coin. Probably just because It was shot under a florescent light and I didn't take the time to correct the white balance on the picture in post. I do see what you are saying about the patchy spots though...

This looks to be a slightly more accurate representation of how the coin looks in person.

I think it would be a good coin to stick in an album. Once in the album hole the rim dings may not be that obvious. Overall a nice coin.

Yea, Ms70 turns them blue. That is not the only cause of blue, but probably the most common from what I have heard. If teh coin really is not blue, there is still something funky about those surfaces - even with the new picture.
