I'm hoarding the Lincoln Memorial Cents(1959-2008) so that in 50 years or less, I can make profit on them. Is anyone else doing this? Is it a good idea to start hoarding this early?

I am also. I figure what happened to the wheats will, to a certain extent, happen to the memorials. For the 1959 to early 1982 (Brass and bronze), I only keep EF(XF) or better. For the late 1982 to 2008 (Copper plated zinc) I only keep AU or better unless it is something like a scarce or rare variety such as 1998 to 2000 wide AM which I keep in any grade as long as it is not a victim of major PMD. So far, combining all dates of Mems I have close to 100 pounds. I started this endeavor in earnest when I heard the rumor that the mem design was to be terminated. The down turn in the economy caused a flood of cents being returned to banks and coin counter machines. I have found many from the early years that were probably stored in drawers, piggy banks, etc. for many years and looked like they just came from the mint.

If you're asking if it's a good idea to be among the first hoarders of something that will increase in value, of course it is.

If you're asking if they'll increase in value...who knows?

I also keep AU-BETTER COPPER CENTS. I also have the 2009 mint set that has the copper cents in it. I think those will have some value in the future.

For now I'm keeping all pre 1983's. Hopefully it becomes legal to melt them.

I save copper in any grade. For the 1982 and up Zincolns, I only save MS red coins. From 1982-1993 it's getting harder to find MS red coins in circulation. Certain years like the 82 up to 1991 D mints are scarce in my area. When I find a blazing, red MS 1991-D I get very excited because, for me, they are rare in change/rolls.

IMO the lesser grade coins will never be worth more than 1 cent because there's so many BU red examples. I don't bother saving that stuff at all unless it's a variety, RPM, error or neatly toned.
