It looks like it could be strands of thread. If it were cloth, you would see the weave of the textile.

Looks like maybe through a thin piece of wire Siggi. By the way, a beautiful coin/token. Could you give us some history on it?

I considered that it could be very thin wire, but ruled it out because of the way it "meanders" about like a strand of thread might do. In case anyone is wondering, it is possible for something soft and flexible like thread to be imprinted onto the surface of a planchet.

It would be hard to set a value on something like this, and is more of a nice conversation piece, but you never know who might be interested in adding such a specimen to their error collection.

PS. No offense, Siggi, but this will be my last post to this thread because it is twice as wide as my screen, and I don't like to have to scroll back an forth to view everything.

No offense taken, I changed the pictures. I thoguht the forums resized them :)

Now I´m not selling this and I know it´s hard to put a price. As NGC is grading all my errors coins I´m just pondering if this would get graded as a error ?

Could those be hairs it was struck through?

I dont think human hair is so thick, This is most likely either a thread from the cloth they used to clean it or a wire from a brush. I have never seen on of these in hand so i´m waiting for more feedback.

THis is how we learn the best in my oppinion :)

Maybe some threads, I see more than one little squiggle. They aren't die cracks because they are not raised, I think they are string, it seems like the most possible thing

If you pay NGC for the error attribution they will list it otherwise they don't bother.

That´s good enough for me as I never thought I would be able to find an Error on my countrys gold coins. Not many of these were minted so off to NGC it goes :thumb:

    Siggi,

Be sure to check the appropriate box for errors, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to note on the line item description, "Struck through thread".

If you want to send this coin in to NGC,,,I would contact them first and ask if this coin would be concidered a error ,,,if the answer is yes ,,,then send it in. I'm sure that there aren't many error's for this coin,,if any.....Great find Siggi. Congrad's....:thumb:

I can see why you hold this man in such high regard Siggi. As I was reading the information about him that you provided, I saw similarities with our George Washington and even Benjamin Franklin, two of the most prominent figures in our quest for independence. He sounds like someone I would have liked to meet and have a long conversation with. Thanks for the history lesson.
