In the most recent Coin Dealer Newsletter, prices for the 2004 Clad U.S. Proof Set (BidAsk $34.00/$37.00) are greater than prices for the 2004 Silver US. Proof Set Bid/Ask $$26.00/$28.00! Even the 5-coin St. Quarter Clad Proof Set is slightly higher than the Silver one! I must have missed some important info that year. Can anyone tell me why ANY clad set would sell for less than a same-number-of-coins silver one? Maybe I'm halucinating, my vision is declining or the CDN is in error this week??!!
coin regular set = 1,789,488 5 piece set = 951,196 silver set = 1,175,934 So, I agree with your comments. No logical reason, unless the TV guys are promoting the heck out of them. Perhaps the silver set is a buy?
Unlike most, the 2004 clad proof set sold out before the end of the year. It became known as a rarity and prices were high for several years. My 2009 Red Book, for example, lists it at $50. The price has now returned to Earth and I just bought one (because my daughter was born that year) for $12.50 at a coin shop.
