I recently started collecting coins. I have over 40 Morgan Dollars and want to know is there way to get them all graded professionally without paying the fees the top grading places charge per coin. Like an hourly rate and pay for the slabs. Or is better to just get a job for one of them and grade them myself for free lol.

Since you are new to collecting, I have to ask the questions, "Did you purchase some or all of these Morgans on eBay?" and "Are you able to tell the difference between an "unmolested" coin and a problem coin?"

So often, beginners are so anxious to start buying, but they aren't able to tell from online photos whether the coin is problem-free or not and there are plenty of eBay sellers who are pretty good at hiding problems or juicing photos to mislead the buyer. Then, when they submit coins for grading, they find out too late after the purchase and submission fees that the coin has been messed with.

Before you start submitting coins for grading, you should have a certain amount of knowledge about grading. I'd recommend that you purchase one of the books like ANA Grading Standards for United States Coins to guide you. You should also have some idea about the value of the coin and whether it is worth submitting for grading or not. There are a lot of common-date Morgans which wouldn't be worthwhile to submit unless they will grade MS64 or higher.

I don't recommend submitting to a grading service just because they are cheaper. The coins that end up in these slabs are usually overgraded, and they don't command the value like those coins that are graded by the top tier grading services, NGC and PCGS. If your sole purpose is to provide protection for the coins, there are other less expensive alternatives such as AirTites for encapsulation.

What Chris said - with the addition, not knowing how you purchased these coins, there are a lot of counterfeit morgans out there. You need to be careful.

It would be nice if you could take some photos of your nicer coins & post them here.

Are they worth grading? Are they MS (mint state) or heavily circulated? Are they commons? Better dates? Key Dates?? A small hoard of CC's? Curiosity killed the daniel....
