Hello, I am currently working on 3 Danscos : Indian Head Cents, Peace Dollars, and Franklin Half Dollars. So I had a buffalo nickel laying around and I thought about also collecting them, but my concern is I have 3 incomplete sets, so should I start this one also to make it 4? I also have a good opportunity to start the series next saturday at the Whitman Coin Show. Thanks
It is usually better to stay with one collection. However, I have a hard time doing that myself. What grades are you looking to put in your Buffalo Dansco album? This can be an expensive series to put together depending on the grade. I started an AU set of Buffalo's 3 years ago and am still working on it.
well like the common dates AU the harder dates will be like the prices I can afford lets say if a coin is $50 for a G Ill pay $60 for a VG but not $80
I have at least a folder for every coin set that is past seated liberty. I focus on Peace dollars, but I put together these folder and albums from eBay lots and such
It wouldn't hurt to start it. Sometimes when you are going to a show the coins you need to fill your main album might not be available or within reach of this months paycheck (without too many frowns from the wife.) So it's always handy to have a backup album to purchase the coins.
The question I have to ask is why are the other 3 not complete? Is it the key dates? Maybe you should keep saving for those. As it is starting another album, might keep you from completing the others if you are always spending and need to save for a key date. I don't want to tell you not to start another album, you can decide for yourself.
There's nothing wrong with having incomplete sets. Almost all of my sets are incomplete. I have lists of each coin in need in each series that I take with me when I go to buy coins and then just cross them off when I find one. Sometimes people think it's funny that I have these lists, but it makes a lot of sense to me.
Try putting them in your cellphone. I do that so when I'm looking through my list people don't think I'm such a nerd I must be texting or something I started doing that because I seemed to always not have my list at the most crucial times.
