Just found this coin as I was going through my new Jefferson's for my album. I always use a loop when ever I am looking at coins I receive, for this very reason I have used a loop and can see the error, but if you move the loop it looks like the date 2065 I used this type of lighting as it shows up better. It is the best my camera can do. I could use some help with this coin. I would like to know just what to do with it. Alan
Meaning it happened out of the mint not while it was minted. If the pictures were clearer, it could possibly be a die break or scratch, who knows.
I agree it is a very cool looking Jefferson nickel! The distinction between it being an error or PMD (Post Mint Damage) in this case would be more evident if we could tell whether the line coming from the "0" is above or below the surface. If it is raised then it could possibly be a break or scratch in the die that allowed some of the planchet to move into the scratch or break during striking. Most likely this is a nick or scratch although I am curious as to whether someone did it intentionally or if it was a just a cool looking accident making this nickel appear to be a time traveler! It's not easy to see from the picture but is the line raised above the surface of the coin, or is it just a scratch into the surface?
Hi I have gone over it with my loupe, and it is when magnified a deep groove. But if you turn the loupe another way it look just to be the date Alan

Since 2035 the United States has been forced to counter stamp or deface previous coinage to make all coins current (all legal tender must be of that current year). Since the Vampire versus Zombie war had destroyed the Philadelphia mint, the struggles in the United States continued to grow. In 2031 the United States forcefully took back all previously minted coinage using their metal detecting cyborg-lions. Many numismatists lost their lives trying to retain their collections which in some case had been passed on for generations. After a four year coin war the United States declared it had recouped 98% of all coins produced by the United States mint. After the calendar year was reduced to 10 months in 2034 by removing December and January to prevent the celebration of most religious holidays by congress the government could finally act upon legislature passed in 2021. Some may remember the Debt Consolidation and Vampire/Zombie Armistice Act of 2021. All 3 major parties worked endlessly to pass the bill to fix our debt issues after a coup removed then President 001101000101011101 (our nations first synthetic and final president the nation would ever see) and to finalize the peace agreements between the newly established Undead nations of Vampire Torontostan and the zombie lands known as Garrraahh ack argggg. Prior to the coup, President 001101000101011101 who was in his second term was attacked by hacker pirates who had roamed the eastern sea board for several years using wireless internet to make attacks on the United States, Canada and Mexico. After the Canadian vampires stormed out of Toronto in virtually all directions 2 years earlier, they had unknowingly knocked out most of the internet the pirates had been using. The cyber buccaneers were forced to use the recently hacked president to unleash a top secret Zombie army to combat the vampire hoards. The pirates had hoped the use of undead against undead would allow a pirate raid into Maine to restore their internet off the coast. Unbeknownst to the pirates, an Egyptian myth spoke of a great undead battle that would proceed the return of Ashkanraman the great Egyption deity with the body of a whale (10 times that of a blue whale), the tentacles of a giant squid and the head of narwhal. Until the Debt Consolidation act is fulfilled and the embargo of the undead nations are lifted, China has been stout in its demands for a return on its investment. The United States has been left no choice to comply, without a president the nation is left mostly divided and torn apart by infighting. For ten years the United States outsourced the scratching of previously minted coinage to Garrraahh ack argggg with very poor results in how the zombies changed our Morgan and Peace dollars and the recent embargo things had to change. With China's continued demand of no new coins and the people's demand of readable coins with the current year clearly etched in it appears the United States reopened the Denver Mint two years ago this day. The Denver Mint was previously occupied by scientists working on a temporal distortion machine (using technology received from the Portuguese sonar project) in hopes of one day making time travel possible. Rumors has surfaced that it had been realized but no evidence had ever been substantiated. Some mint scratch workers have reported missing 2065 nickels and have jokingly blamed time travellers displaced temporally, who now magically shift between the mint now and throughout time. It is unseen at this time when the United States will repay its debts and lift the undead nation embargos. Until then both legally living American citizens and Illegally undead aliens residing in the United States will continue to make Chinese leaders happy and reuse old coins.
